Create a vision board about the legacy you want to leave behind

We all want to leave the world a little better than we found it. This is especially true when it comes to our families. Creating a vision board can help you identify how you want your family to benefit from your hard work for years to come.

  1. Imagine the world 60 years from now. What do you see? Grandchildren? Great-grandchildren? Imagine the opportunities you want them to have. The possibilities are endless! They could attend college, travel the world, own businesses, and more.

  2. Grab a poster board, scissors, markers, and glue.

  3. Find some magazines that you don't mind cutting up.

  4. Split the poster board into four sections.

  5. Make the first section the "Opportunity" section. Cut out magazine clippings that make you think about the opportunities that you want your descendants to have, and glue them to that section!

  6. Make the second section the "Feeling" section. How do you want you family to feel years from now. Happy? Safe? Secure? Find pictures that show display those feelings, and glue them to that section.

  7. Make the third section that "Tangible Item" section. What items do you want you want your descendants to have? This could range from a home to a prized possession you have right now. Fill that section with pictures of those things.

  8. The fourth section will be a list. Use this section to list everything you're doing right now to ensure that you're leaving a strong legacy for your descendants. In this section, you could possibly include "Buying Insurance," or "Making a Will."
